GEOMTRX is the extension of more than three years of market analysis and research by California Energy Initiatives (CEI) headed up by Tom Rosewall. During that period, Tom and his team canvassed state, regional and local agencies, NGOs and businesses throughout California and elsewhere regarding their needs to better manage GHG and energy projects.
Through that work Tom discovered the critical missing piece.
Today, local GHG projects are managed by many software solutions and spreadsheets,
but there is no analytical representation of the climate overall, or any direct way for
projects to join together for enterprise, regional or broader climate action planning. Placing local project results in context with adjacent or regional climate numbers is critical to understanding the big climate picture. Without that capability regulatory bodies can't effectively allocate dollars to climate mitigation and adaptation programs; companies can't know how their carbon footprint relates beyond internal goals - and today, short of large enterprise solutions, few can track the results of their climate initiatives over time.
To solve the problem, CEI gathered and organized all the available California county and state data of the five major components comprising the statewide carbon footprint, extensible to other states and regions. That data has been normalized across spreadsheets with dynamic coefficients and analytics. This allows companies and agencies to roll up local project data for analysis - resulting in a complete top down set of reports that place projects in context with all aspects of the regional or statewide climate.
The GEOMTRX mission is to roll the CEI data for California into a sophisticated database and cloud service - and then add the data from other US states and from other climate concious countries - expanding on the CEI vision to provide a cost effective platform for entities of all sizes to easily plan and account for energy and GHG projects.
With this knowledge base and the decision support tools available from GEOMTRX, any local project can report measurable usage and reduction of gasoline, deisel, kilowatt hours, therms, etc. These can then be converted to tons of GHG emissions and other metrics and reported in climate context across cities, counties, companies and regions. It also allows historical and projected graphing of project progress with visibility of reduction requirements to meet mitigation and adaptation goals.
